A kilt jacket is what makes a kilt look elegant. A kilt on its own is fine for everyday wear but a jacket along with a waistcoat that completes your Highland look for any occasion. We sell Argyll, Prince Charlie, and Tweed jackets, made in Barathea wool and Tweed wool, and they come in standard sizing. Since we have been serving our customers for 20 years, there is a stock available in different styles and sizes, it's worth checking our Size Chart before you order.
Barathea is a smooth fabric that is made tightly and has a good shape. So, we make jackets and waistcoats from 100% barathea wool material which is durable and ideal for any occasion. Because of this we utilise it for the Argyll and Prince Charlie jackets of which it helps to produce a sharp, structured look for more formal attire.
Tweed wool is more textured wool, it feels heavier than Barathea and warmer. It would also look better with our Tweed jacket, as it is worn on a day-to-day basis and outside of the house as well rather than a formal setting. Opt for tweed if you're looking for a garment you'll wear to numerous occasions rather than just once – it's just more functional.
Each jacket sits at a different level of style and formality, so it helps to know the differences before picking one.
Argyll Jacket – Semi-formal. Our Argyll Jackets worn with a three-button kilt waistcoat.
Prince Charlie Jacket – Formal. Our prince charlie jackets with a wing-collar shirt and bow tie, and have a tailed design at the back.
Tweed Jacket – Casual. Our tweed jackets have a rougher, more textured look.
To finish the outfit properly, pair your kilt jacket with a kilt waistcoat, a kilt shirt, a sporran, a kilt pin, and a pair of ghillie brogues. A matching waistcoat is important for your formal appearance in any event. The Tweed jacket can be kept simpler, just a kilt shirt and a more casual sporran works well, since it's meant for a relaxed setting. We have the most demanded black, and navy blue colours available. If you need a colour not available in our collection, we can customise for you.
Weddings & Formal Events – The Prince Charlie jacket suits evening and black-tie weddings. The Argyll jacket works better for daytime or semi-formal weddings.
Highland Games, Gatherings & Casual Outings – The Tweed jacket is the obvious pick here, comfortable enough for a full day out and suited to a more relaxed setting.
Gifting – Buying one as a gift? We're happy to help with sizing questions, and exchanges are simple if the size isn't right.
