Our tartan fabric is a 16oz acrylic wool cloth, sold by the yard in a 36 inch width. Most people think tartan plaid is only for making kilts, but that's really just one use for it. We sell this plaid fabric and you can use it for home decor, upholstery, framed wall art, bag making, hair ribbons and accessories, wallets, and costumes too. Whatever you're making, if it needs a proper tartan cloth or checked fabric, this is where you'd start.
We use 100% acrylic wool in the form of 16oz wool. With that weight it will have plenty of structure whether it's in a garment or a piece like upholstery, without it sitting too stiff. It's also tough, which is good if you intend to use it for something that you have to deal with on a daily basis, such as a bag or furniture. That said, pure wool is not acrylic wool but it will provide you with a full tartan feel and print for the budget of just a fraction!
We carry a good range of named and clan plaid tartans, including Royal Stewart, Wallace, Fraser, Buchanan, Campbell, Douglas, Gordon, Macpherson, Macdonald, Clark, and Smith, among others.
Can't see your own clan tartan on the list? That's not the end of it. We can source or weave your specific tartan on request, so you're not limited to what's already listed here.
Kilt-making is the obvious one, but there's a lot more you can do with this fabric..
